Angelica is a passionate competitive surfer who recently won her division at the La Muse Classic for the second year in a row. She loves teaching others and sharing her enthusiasm for the sport. No matter the conditions, you can find Angelica in the ocean or at the beach!
Ever since Amy caught her first wave at 15 years old, her love for surfing has only grown. Along with her passion for the sport, she developed a deep desire to teach others. She finds it incredibly rewarding to share the beauty of surfing with fellow surfers and to see more women out in the lineup.
Coach Jess is originally from Durban and started surfing at the age of 7, now has 20 years of surfing under her ‘board’. She competed at Provincial and National levels and is as passionate about surfing today as when she first started. Jess loves coaching and empowering girls and women to feel safe, strong and confident in the ocean.
With 20 years of experience, Tammy is a passionate surf coach who has been a provincial and National Long Boarder. She emphasizes that it’s a fantastic full-body workout—an adventure like no other. After teaching hundreds of people, she knows that you’re never too young or too old to catch your first wave!

How did you first get into surfing?
I have always been an ocean lover, living in Muizenberg most of my life, however I never took the plunge to start surfing. It all began on a surf date a few years ago with my now fiancé and the rest is history, I was hooked!

Freeing, community and movement
What is your dream surf destination?
Bali Bali Bali!
What do you do outside of the water?
Work wise, I am the founder/ cofounder of Backline Babes and I work as Clinical Dietitian at a District Hospital. Outside of work, I recently got back into mountain biking, love a little camping trip, time with friends and/or family and of course a boogie now and then.
Do you prefer a dawny surf or sunset surf?
Definitely a dawny
Longboard or shortboard?
Longboarding all the way.
What's your favourite post-surf snack?
Fish & chips or a bacon avo feta pizza!

Our MeeTUPS
Our meet-ups happen mostly on the weekends and are surf condition-dependent. We usually meet in front of the pavilion. Your ambassador will plan sessions during the week as well as on the weekends, where we all share good vibes, waves, and all-round fun. There is nothing better than heading out to good surf with amazing women, catching absolute bombs, and cheering one another on!
